Bobby, Andrea, Bert (the real leader of the stores), Renee, and Bob Heuser

We opened our first store at Buckwalter Place in Bluffton in March of 2015. The community response was amazing - folks here in the Lowcountry truly appreciate local, small business, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Since then, we have opened a second Ace Hardware in Hardeeville, acquired a third Ace Hardware in Pawleys Island, and acquired a Paint Center (now Heuser Paint) on Hilton Head.

Sadly, our beloved “Helpful Hardware Dog”, Calvin, passed away in 2021. He came to work every day, and we hope you got to meet him at Buckwalter over the years.

Now, the Heuser Family - with our newest addition, Bert - operate the stores every day with the help of our awesome team. If you’re in the store and see us, please stop and say Hi, we’d love to meet you!

Our Journey

Hi, we're the Heuser Family - Bob, Renee, Bobby, Andrea, and the newest addition, Bert! We opened Heuser Ace Hardware in March 2015, and would like to tell you a bit about ourselves, and our journey.

We all used to live half a country apart and enjoyed different careers. Bob was a Chemical Engineer, managing a plant in Baltimore, Maryland. Renee was a 1st Grade teacher in Maryland, and Bobby managed Consumer Strategy for a major bank in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

We came to a cross-roads. We realized that life is too short, and family is too important to live half a country apart. We strongly believe in the importance of small business to America, and had long kicked around the idea of a family business. So in 2012, we took the leap, and started planning our first Heuser Hardware store.
